Batik is a traditional Indonesian textile that is in the world spotlight.
Fashion Designer and Personal Development Coaching, Ai Syarif together with the Indonesia Wellness Tourism International Festival (IWTIF) 2024 shared how batik is able to combine tradition and futurism.
She told the story of a moment when she was a teenager, she already loved traditional Indonesian textile.
"How to start learning how to use the right fabric, batik and so on," said Ai Syarif, via IWTIF's virtual YouTube streaming, quoted Thursday, November 7, 2024.
"How to also develop some batik in Indonesia," she added.
Ai explained, fashion music and dance through Indonesian batik collections in various countries, such as Prague, Hong Kong, South Korea, Bangladesh and Nepal.
"That's where I used batik tulis in Bangladesh," said Ai.
She also told a touching moment, during a show in The Hague, Netherlands. Where the clothes she made were not taken home, because they had already been sold.
"They were so enthusiastic, seeing this as something modern. I combined it with Balinese udeng," explained Ai.
Furthermore, Ai explained Cakra Asih Pinager Lung as a Batik motif worn by Yogyakarta artists and worn directly by NBA athlete Justin Holiday.
"It's really custom made, I made it in Rembang, Lasem," explained Ai.
