Dayak ethnic spas are known to have four types, namely:
1. Massage
Massage is a stroke or pressure using limbs on the surface of the body.
2. Bakassai
Bakassai is a natural ingredient that is applied in the form of a scrub to the entire body by rubbing.
3. Batimuh
Batimuh is an evaporation (steam) conversion from liquid to vapor below boiling temperature or better known as a steam bath.
4. Bapapai
Bapapai itself is a water jar filled with spices and flowers that are bathed in a person.
Batimuh Philosophy
Batimuh or Batimung in Banjar language, is inspired by Putri Junjung Buih, the daughter of the Dayak chief.
This tradition is carried out to care for the body as well as unpleasant odors, and women before getting married.
Batimuh itself means removing sweat from the body by smoking, and herbal concoctions.
Another goal is for the bride to emit a fragrant odor when standing side by side on the dais.
Batimuh Stages
1. Meramu: looking for herbs, such as leaves and flowers
2. Merakik: cutting spices into several parts
3. Maaduk: mixing all the spices that have been cut into a kuantan filled with water
4. Ba'jajarang: Mixing all the ingredients into a kuantan then boiling
5. Maurak karpet purun: preparing materials to cover the body that will be steamed so that the water vapor inside does not escape. This stage consists of a purun mat (woven mat), cloth or sarong and a thick blanket.
6. Maurai karpet purun: forming a purun mat like a circle to cover the body during the bathing process
